Thirty years ago when the founding members created the mission of M.D.I. Alcohol & Drug Abuse Group they did so on three legs: education, prevention and treatment. We believe that education and prevention efforts in our schools, island organizations, and families, especially strengths based resiliency initiatives, are the best way to offer positive alternatives to prevent the negative effects of addiction. We believe that compassionate treatment, without, or with a minimum of, medical intervention, is the best way to help people find their way out of addictive cycles. This approach holds as its first principal the basic dignity of human life – that we are not treating addiction, we are treating people

The Board of Directors of M.D.I. Alcohol & Drug Abuse Group supports treatment that values the inherent strengths of the client to develop new ways of addressing life that affirms life and one’s place in it.
