We receive NO public monies of any kind and are entirely dependent on the generosity of private donors like you to continue our work. All donations are tax deductible. Please support us in our efforts to stop alcohol and drug abuse. Every dollar counts. Also, please show your support for our work by attending our upcoming events!

It may be possible to take the full, fair market value deduction as of the date of the gift, on gifts of property, including appreciated stock, donated to the MDI Alcohol & Drug Abuse Group, Inc. By making gifts of appreciated stock, without selling them first and then donating the proceeds, it is possible to avoid paying the capital gains tax on the sale AND get a charitable donation deduction at the same time. HELPING HANDS CAPITAL CAMPAIGN

"Doing Nothing Is Not An Option!"

In 2004 The MDI Alcohol & Drug Abuse Group, Inc. launched our first ever Capital Campaign.  The three-year "Helping Hands" Capital Campaign objective is to raise $500,000 over the next three years to fund specific community needs.

Specific Fund Needs

	$50,000	Education and Prevention Outreach
		Expansion of programming in schools and workplace Expand services to include outreach and treatment services to the outer islands Increase distribution of informational brochures Offer seminars to clinical professionals, as well as the general public, of nationally known speakers
	$100,000	Treatment Scholarships
	$200,000	Facilities improvements, including American with Disabilities Access and update capital equipment
	$150,000	Increase endowment to serve future generations

Former state senator Jill Goldthwait gave a moving speech at the 2004 Helping Hands Capital Campaign kick-off event about the need for all of us to help address the substance abuse problems in our communities. "Doing nothing is not an option, " said the former senator. "This is not going to be solved by a few people working and a lot of others making sympathetic noises. We need foot soldiers, we need brain power, and if you can't fill either of those roles, we need MONEY. So do not wait until you have your own personal reason to get involved: an addicted family member, a dead child, a property loss, or a beloved place that was once a haven and is no longer safe."

Make a real difference in someone's life by becoming an active Helping Hand in our Capital Campaign. Ways YOU can support our mission:

• Serving on one of our committees.
  
  
• Making a one-time donation or a three-year pledge.
  
  
• Asking your employer about Matching Gifts.
  
  
• Giving Gifts of Appreciated Securities - If you hold publicly traded stocks that have appreciated in value and have been held for more than one year, you may transfer shares, take the full market value of the stock as a tax deduction and avoid any capital gains liability.
  
  
• Donating Bequests and Estate Gifts - A gift of real estate, other tangible property or cash is a wonderful way to create a lasting legacy of support. Estate gifts may also provide significant tax savings.
  
  
• Contacting others to increase awareness and donations!
