The largest proportion of the cost of treatment, 5.2 million (26.7%) was paid out of State General Funds, followed by Medicaid, $4.4 million (22.8%) and Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Block Grant monies, $4.3 million (22.4%)
Only 13.7% of treatment costs are paid by private funding sources

A Board of Directors consisting of 14 diverse members, of whom all are residents of Mount Desert Island and the surrounding islands, governs the MDI Alcohol & Drug Abuse Group, Inc. Board members serve for three-year terms and meet at least 10 times each year. Board members may also participate on sub-committees in areas relating to outreach, finance, fundraising, etc., which meet less frequently and report to the Board as a whole.
