Maine experienced a five-fold increase in NARCOTIC OVERDOSE DEATHS over a five year period- from 34 in 1997, to 160 in 2002! This increase now rivals the number of motor vehicle accident deaths in Maine each year (183 in 2001).
From sponsoring a thought provoking play, Ultralight, a beautiful story of two brothers and the intrusion of heroin addiction, to testifying for the U.S. Senate Governmental Affairs Committee Hearing in Bangor, Maine August 6, 2003, to contributing substantial on-going financial support for local treatment at the Acadia Family Center, the MDI Alcohol & Drug Abuse Group, Inc. is actively committed to raising awareness that chemical dependency is a treatable illness and supporting that treatment.
